LU SANT’ANDONJE (The Saint Antoine)

Between songs, sounds, re-enactment and dishes

2008 S Andonie 1

(Jan 26th, 2008) Great rediscovery of popular tradition, the root of our culture, Thursday, January the 17th to Senior Center. The Coop. social LA.SE.R. Silvi, who manages on behalf of the City of Silvi Social Centre has always been attentive to the rediscovery of the traditions and their dissemination to the younger generation, he wanted to propose "lu Sand'Andonie". Some members of the choir "PGLerario" led by Silvi M° Franco Costantini have generously accepted the invitation flooding the rooms of the Centre of color, music, folklore and lots of warm sympathy. The elders along with the mayor, a councilor and father Maurice, we were graced with their presence significantly.

At dinner all guests singers and elderly have tasted some traditional flavors associated with this ancient tradition. In fact, with songs and dramatizations of "Lu Sande" ("The Saint"), with deep ancestral meanings associated with the flow of life and its dependence on the land and its products, and not so young members of the choir have tasted pork and "taujuline and fasciule nghi le còteche" (typical italian dish) specialties related to the pre-carnival. All Abruzzo has rediscovered this important tradition for the cultural education of our knowledge. Even Silvi has aligned itself with this new sensibility in a historical moment where it is important to reaffirm their cultural roots.

2008 S Andonie 2Thus the evening was spent between the representation of the various temptations of the devil sung to the patient Sant'Antonio Abate and the intervention of the Archangel Michael fighting the evil exorcising doubts and anxieties of the future. There were, then, moments of authentic folklore offered with the usual mastery by Franco Costantini and his backup singers who sang some of the oldest known popular songs and the Abruzzo region. The Coop. LA.SE.R. Silvi, take this opportunity to thank Franco Costantini, the choir, the Mayor and his father Maurizio for showing affection and making happy our seniors. The Centre for the Elderly awaits many other cultural initiatives aimed at rediscovering the beauty of our history with the use of the resources of this rich and extraordinary territory.
